Hall of Amazing Insects

This page contains the most myriad, amazing, beautiful, awesome insects that are on my blog (in my opinion).

Cottonwood Borer: I wouldn't have seen this amazing longicorn without my dad. I was sitting down in the shade with Ima and mom when dad saw it on the sand. I was hesitant, but I got up, took some pics, and was amazed. I had never seen anything like it except for citrus longhorn beetles in a video game. I watched in amazement as it flew over to a reed and got kinda unbalanced. I then picked up my camera and ended up with the photo of my life.

Locust Borer: We were at McCormick Place Bird Sanctuary and While dad and Ima were talking to a birder, I got my second special Longhorn (Or longicorn). It didn't really do much, but it was an awesome beetle. It's also in the same family as the Cottonwood Borer (top). I only knew they existed 'cause they're on the Illinois DNR insect poster that we have. I saw one a few days later at Jackson Park.

Chinese Mantis: Though they're invasive, It's been special every time I've seen one of these weirdos. They look so alien and fierce, plus they have those spooky "pupils" that are visible at all angles. Whenever we make eye contact, it pierces strait into my soul. They're just so cool, and I'm glad I can spot them.
Just look up mantis on my blog so I don't have to do a bunch of links, please.

Northern Walkingstick: The reason we went to Sagawau Environmental Learning Center was to see the bird banding, but we got another cool thing. I sat down and the first thing I noticed was that there was a stick insect right in front of me. I picked up my camera and to a bunch of photos. I then got it onto my arm and transfered it to the safety of a tree. It was amazing how much it looked like a stick. It was also really spooky how it walked.

Mourning Cloak: We were going to another bird banding, when one of the volunteers pointed out this mourning cloak. I then picked up my camera and started taking pics. It couldn't really stay still, and it was kinda a pain in the butt to photograph it, but I ended up with good pics and an amazing experience.

Monarch: Even though I sometimes take these butterflies for granted, they're amazing creatures and also endangered. It was also really special raising one. Rescuing it from a dangerous location, wating it pupate, seeing it emerge, watching its behavior, and releasing it. They're super cool and I hope they don't go extinct. Look up Monarch conservation organizations and see what you can do.

Northern Leaf-footed Bug: When I looked into the catalpa tree this bug was in, I was looking for beans to play with. Yet when I saw a good bean to play with, I got my very first Leaf-footed Bug. Though it just scuttled to the other side of the bean, It's still a really awesome bug, and I hope I see more.
