My illustration of the first ten pics on this post. The illustration of the Microcystis cell in the lower left has a holdfast, which many microbes use to attach themselves to a surface. I made the assumption that that Microcystis cells I was seeing had holdfasts based on their colony shape. This was before I knew what the cells where (beyond some algae), and there are no sources online supporting my theory. However, based on the radial positioningand fixed distance of the Microcystis cells around the center of the colony, I still think they might have holdfasts

Dinobryon is a genus of non-parasitic, non-toxin forming golden algae. It gets energy from eating bacteria and photosynthesizing. Its habitat is freshwater
