4.18.26 Edgebrook Woods, Chicago, IL I



American Yellow Morel. My family and I saw three of them today, growing right next to the road. They were growing in a marshland that had a controlled burn some time ago. Also being near the edge of a forest, this combination of trees, fire, moisture, and grassland creates the perfect environment for popular morels to grow. As there were only three morels (ethics), it was in a park (potential legal issues), and that they are regularly exposed to car fumes (toxicity), we did not pick them, let alone eat them.
